Filthy Beautiful Lies (Colton & Sophie’s story begins)2. Filthy Beautiful Love (Colton & Sophie’s story concludes)3. Filthy Beautiful Lust (Pace & Kylie’s story)4. Filthy Beautiful Forever (Collins & Mia’s story)This series follows the three Drake brothers. Collins, Colton, and Pace are all intense personalities. They lost their mother in their youth; Collins was fifteen, Colton twelve, and Pace just nine at the time of her passing. She had been warm and loving, and losing her certainly had an impact on the boys. The trio manages to maintain a sense a family in her absence, all living in the L.A. area. Their father had been a philanderer, not much of an example. He lives and works on the East Coast and rarely sees his sons, but is known to always have younger women on his arm. His sons would like to see him retire, but he isn’t ready for that yet. The brothers each have a trust fund to rely upon, but all three choose to work.Collins Drake, thirty, is the eldest. He is on the serious side, exercising control in everything he does. He is CEO of an investment firm and has a live-in supermodel girlfriend, Tatianna. It was originally an arrangement made of convenience, and though Tatianna had pushed for more, Collins seems unhappy. Tatianna’s career keeps her busy, and their relationship appears to be on rocky ground.Colton Drake, twenty-eight, is a workaholic. He is in investment banking and runs a non-profit on the side – his pet project to develop a sustainable community in rural Africa. He is the middle child, so he is naturally a people pleaser. Though every bit an alpha and like Collins in terms of control, he has a tendency to be a little too forgiving.Pace Alexander Drake, twenty-five, is the fun-loving youngest Drake brother. He and Colton are often mistaken for twins, but Pace is a softer version of his older brother. He is a relentless flirt, having perfected his pickup skills over the past twelve years. Pace works for himself as a real estate investor. He enjoys his modest seaside condo, opting to live on fruit of his own labor rather rely upon his trust fund.Books one and two are Colton and Sophie’s story. Pace’s story is in book three, followed by Collins’ in book four.IN FILTHY BEAUTIFUL LIES, BOOK ONE:Sophie Evans, twenty-one, would do anything to save her twin sister. Becca has been in and out of the hospital for years, but with stage four ovarian cancer she is down to her last few months of life. There is an experimental treatment with promise, however, if only they could come up with the three hundred thousand dollar price tag. Though her Northern California small town family is of modest means, Sophie learns that selling her virginity will almost certainly bring in enough to cover the cost of treatment. Agreeing to become a slave to the highest bidder for six long months is a daunting idea, but after years of selflessness and sacrifice in support of Becca, Sophie doesn’t hesitate. She can never let Becca know what she did for her, so she just lets her family know that she is taking a much needed break to visit a friend in L.A.Colton Drake, twenty-eight, should be enjoying the prime of his life. The Harvard grad and workaholic runs two companies – one a non-profit. His good looks in combination with his charisma and magnetic personality ensure he could have any woman he wants, and he is looking to let off some steam after two years of nothing but work. Stella did a number on him, but it is time to move on. While in San Francisco on business, he catches wind of an auction that promises to be the perfect solution to his situation. Though he had never participated in anything of the likes before, the discretion of the transaction lures him in. He can handle things differently by keeping his physical needs separate from his personal life, thereby avoiding all the hassle of a relationship. It was a spur of the moment decision, and before he knows it he is in over his head. Instead of the experienced and well-trained woman who knows her role well, Colton ends up bringing home an innocent and timid young lady. He knows he needs to take things slower with Sophie, though he still plans to get his money’s worth. But when his brothers get a look at her, Colton begins to feel a little territorial and his feelings about Sophie begin to shift. When she opens up to him about her reason for entering the auction, the guilt quickly begins to set in. He can never let Sophie learn about his past. This book ends in a devastating cliffhanger.Colton and Sophie’s angsty story starts out with a bang. Colton purchases Sophie at an auction, but soon finds himself in over his head with the sweet and innocent woman he brings home. Sophie is selfless, strong, independent, and intelligent – in addition to shy and innocent. Colton is a big surprise, however. He probably isn’t anything like the other men that had bid on Sophie. Though he might enjoy some dirty fun and dominating in the bedroom, he isn’t at all into the whole master/slave dynamic. Aside from certain expectations in the bedroom, their relationship is rather normal. But he still holds all the cards since Sophie cannot afford to mess up and lose the money. Their story is nicely written and plot-driven. It is written in first person. The POV alternates between Sophie and Colton. I rate this book 4.5 stars.IN FILTHY BEAUTIFUL LOVE, BOOK TWO:Book two opens two days after Sophie left Colton. She had stayed just two of the six months required for her contract, and left with her innocence still in tact, but she would willingly return all the money that she hadn’t already spent on Becca’s treatment. The idea that she had been with a married man didn’t sit well with her. To regroup, she and her twin flew to Rome together for some much needed R&R together. Becca’s treatments seem to be responding, so the two are taking advantage of her good health. Having suffered with a potentially terminal illness for years, Becca lives life much less cautiously than Sophie. Becca encourages her to embrace life, too. But Sophie’s feelings about Colton are riddled with guilt and shame that she needs to work through, even if underneath it all she knows she is incapable of denying her connection with him.Colton realizes the error of his ways, but Sophie running away without hearing him out is cutting. He has a demanding career and works tirelessly on his charity. Stella had been a mistake, a result of young love, but he cannot afford to fall for the wrong woman a second time. Stella had been after his fortune, and Sophie’s relationship with him is entirely based upon money. If Sophie’s first reaction is to run instead of listen, that doesn’t bode well.Colton and Sophie are both hurting after the truth about Colton’s marriage is revealed, yet neither can forget the promise of what they had together. When they finally sit down to talk over what happened, Colton proposes a new agreement. They eventually find a happy ending.Fans will note that Pace meets Kylie in this book – and their story follows in book three.Colton and Sophie’s story concludes with a few tears. Instinct might indicate that Sophie was the victim in book one, but Colton has his reasons for being hurt, too. He has reason to have difficulty trusting women, yet he never gives up on Sophie. Sophie, on the other hand, comes across as a little weak here. This story brings the couple together, giving them a much needed chance to stand on equal ground. It also gives a peek at their life going forward, along with a peek at Pace and Kylie’s upcoming story. Note that there is a comment about Marta that raises eyebrows but is not followed up on, leaving questions. Though it is gratifying to read the conclusion to Colton and Sophie’s story, it would have been a stronger ending if this book was shortened and included with the first book. This steamy story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Colton and Sophie. I rate this book four stars.IN FILTHY BEAUTIFUL LUST, BOOK THREE:Pace Alexander Drake, twenty-five, is the fun-loving youngest Drake brother. He and Colton are often mistaken for twins, but Pace is a softer version of his older brother. He is a relentless flirt, having perfected his pickup skills over the past twelve years. Since he can have a woman whenever he wants, he hasn’t felt the need to pick just one and settle into a relationship. He never brings a woman home in order to avoid such entanglements. Though he can see himself eventually getting married, he is happy to devote himself to his career for now. Pace works for himself as a real estate investor, buying distressed properties. He could have the fancy beach home like Collins or Colton, but he chooses to leave his trust fund money untouched, instead living upon what he himself earns. He enjoys his seaside condo, though it is so quiet at home that he spends many of his evenings with one or another of his brothers.Kylie Sloan, twenty-nine, hadn’t planned on becoming a single mom, but she cannot imagine her life without little Max. At one year old, he is quite the handful. She doesn’t have a support system – her mom is too busy with her own life and Kylie hasn’t had a relationship with her father since her parents divorced in her youth. Elan, Max’s father, couldn’t get away fast enough once he learned about Kylie’s pregnancy. He and Kylie had dated for six months and she had envisioned a possible future with him – until she told him that her birth control had failed. But Kylie is strong and independent; she doesn’t need to rely on anyone and prefers it that way. She hasn’t been with a man since Elan and has no plans to change that anytime soon. She has a deficit in the trust department when it comes to men, and when she finally does venture into dating again it will be with a man who takes Max into account, too. Though Max needs a male role mode, Kylie won’t expose him to a man that will soon disappear from his life. Max’s needs come first.Pace faces an uphill battle with single mom Kylie, but unforeseen circumstances give him a lucky break to show her just how serious he is about her and Max. He bumbles it a bit, but he eventually learns from his mistakes. Even if Kylie does give him a chance, there are other obstacles that threaten to destroy his chances to make Kylie and Max his own. There are several tears as their journey comes to a close. The couple eventually find a happy ending.Fans will note that Collins has become increasingly withdrawn and unhappy in this book, pointing to trouble with Tatianna. His story follows in book four.Be prepared for a few tears. Pace and Kylie’s sweet and steamy romance is about perseverance. It is also about the joy and sense of wonder that a baby brings along. It celebrates the connection between a father figure and a child, and highlights the void that a child can fill in a man’s life. Pace’s natural ability to relate to Max and entertain him ends up stealing Kylie’s heart and giving them all the chance to form a new family. Their story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Pace and Kylie. I rate this book four stars.IN FILTHY BEAUTIFUL FOREVER, BOOK FOUR:Collins Drake, thirty, is the eldest Drake brother. He is on the serious side, exercising control in everything he does. He is CEO of an investment firm in downtown L.A. and has a live-in supermodel girlfriend, Tatianna Markov. At twenty-three, Tatianna is young with a carefree attitude. She is focused on her career, which allows Collins to do the same. But after three years together, their relationship appears to be on rocky ground. It is stale. Her moving in was originally an arrangement made of convenience, and though Tatianna had pushed for more, Collins seems unhappy. It appears that their relationship boils down to Tatianna enjoying shopping and the lifestyle Collins has to offer her, while he enjoys the convenience of her coveted body in his bed. But as the physical connection fizzles, Collins begins to think about what he really wants in life.Having just turned thirty, he is taking a hard look at the life he leads. With hindsight, he recognizes that he has been going through the motions for some time. It has been years since he felt truly happy. When he lost his mother at fifteen, Collins’ childhood came to an abrupt halt. In place of his mother, he stepped in to take charge of his younger brothers. But he had his best friend to lean on at the time. It was an age when they were both growing into adults, and as he relied upon Mia for emotional support, he realized that she was no longer the small but sometimes crazy tomboy he had know his whole life. Their relationship shifted, but it ended the night they lost their innocence to one another. Her family had moved away the next day and he never saw her again. He lost both his heart and his best friend that day. It took him a while to get over losing Mia, and he thought he had, but no woman ever had a shot at capturing his heart again. As for marriage and love, they are too messy for his carefully controlled life, and yet Collins hopes for more than the dreary existence he has been living.Mia Monroe, thirty, just lost her job. Always good with numbers, she had pursued a career in accounting. Things had gotten a little sticky with her last employer and she ended up embroiled in a mess. With no savings, she is at risk of being evicted if she doesn’t get another job soon. She cannot help but note, however, that her thirtieth birthday was just months earlier, and she wonders if it is fate at play. Encouraged by her friend, she does something absolutely crazy. In pursuit of her fairy tale ending, she boards a plane to cross the country and follow up on a promise made twenty years earlier. Collins Drake had been her best friend since age five, when he stood up for her as she was being bullied for wearing a second hand Gremlins t-shirt. She was tiny and fragile then, but he always stood by her side. They had made a pinky promise when they were ten, and she is banking on him remembering. They vowed to marry one another at age thirty if they were both still single. Nobody had ever measured up to Collins Drake, and she hopes he feels the same about her.Collins and Mia’s story is a slow burn fifteen years in the making. Mia shows up at his door as he is mulling over his future, but he is still with Tatianna in reality, even if the writing is on the wall. Collins is hesitant to let go of their doomed relationship despite the instant chemistry he shares with Mia. The couple eventually earns a tearful but happy ending.Mia shows up hoping to cash in on a promise made twenty years ago, but Collins has his hands full with his live-in supermodel girlfriend. Collins and Mia’s story is sweet, but some might be uncomfortable with the fact that Collins and Tatianna are an item. Though the situation is handled fairly well, it is still a little messy. The relationship is a bit odd with Collins still attached. It takes some patience. The rest of the story is heartwarming, however. It does a wonderful job of wrapping up the series. Have the tissues ready for Collins and Mia’s happy ending, which leads into a look at the entire Drake family several months down the road. In less than a year, the brothers each found love. Note that there are a few inconsistencies between this book and Pace’s. Collins and Pace have a conversation about Tatianna. In Pace’s story it takes place in a club, but with Collins it takes place at a later time in the context of a workout. Regardless, the series ends on a wonderful note. This sweet second chance romance is written in first person. The POV alternates between Collins and Mia. I rate this book four stars.I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
